Do you or someone in your family suffer from allergies and/or asthma? Here’s likely part of the reason…
And what to do about it.
Check out this week’s video to see if this could be at play in your situation…
Your body’s detoxification pathways play a vital role in clearing out the elements in your blood supply. However, for most people with allergies and asthma these detoxification pathways are not working optimally.
Suboptimal detoxification causes a buildup of waste in your body’s blood supply and this is what activates your immune system to inappropriately identify something that is not harmful as a threat. The result is an allergic response.
Your liver is the organ responsible for detoxification. Inside the liver your body performs 2 phases of detoxification. Phase I detoxification is where waste materials are broken apart into metabolites. In Phase II detoxification conjugation happens, which is essentially where the waste metabolites stick together and get ready to exit your body.
However, almost all people with allergies and asthma have an imbalance of Phase I and Phase II detoxification happening in the body. This poses a problem because the metabolites if left unconjugated can be reabsorbed into the blood supply.
The reabsorbed waste metabolites continue to build up in your body’s blood supply and now your immune system is overwhelmed and inappropriately identifies something like nuts or pollen as a threat.
It is vitally important to balance Phase I and Phase II detoxification pathways to ensure the waste material actually exits the body. Unfortunately, there are many things in standard American culture which increase Phase I detoxification such as eating a high sugar diet (consistently eating foods with more than 5g of sugar/serving), eating charred meats, alcohol, coffee and certain medications.
Therefore it is necessary to consciously increase Phase II detoxification pathways (which are reliant on certain nutrients). Things that increase Phase II include:
– Cruciferous vegetables
– Nuts and seeds
– Foods high in B Vitamins
– Healthy proteins (such as poultry, beef, seafood)
– Having adequate sleep
– Low sugar diet
Now that you are aware of the importance of balancing Phase I and Phase II detoxification in your body to alleviate allergies and asthma, your homework is to choose at least 2 items from the list above to incorporate in your life this week.
